Medical Clinic

Kids Ark runs a registered medical clinic in the village of Sidara. Branca (nurse) oversees a team of volunteer doctors from Dili. The clinic is open five days a week with Branca being on-call at any time for emergencies. On occasions, mobile clinics travel to the remoter hill areas.

The Health field also encompasses other community development projects - water, sanitation, micro finance, the elderly and people with disabilities.

Sanitation and Water Reticulation

Several toilets have been constructed around the village of Sidara.

A major source of spring water has been rehabilitated and a series of tanks and water pipes installed to provide amenities for washing and collecting water.

There has been a noticable change in health standards with clean drinking water.

Birthing Centre

Nearby the clinic is a two room birthing centre. Births are assisted by one trained and one traditional midwife. A close watch is given to first time mums and those with a history of problems. Kids Ark assists with transport to hospital.

Mothers can stay at the centre post-natal and are given food, milk and babies supplies to take home.

Pre-natal classes are run every Wednesday morning alongside the Mothers with young children program.

The clinic is also registered to provide birth certificates.

Care for the eldery

Old people in the villages are some of the most vulnerable. Once a week the elderly visit the clinic for check-ups and an exercise program.

When able, Kids Ark provides fish oil tablets, rice and oil.
